The Animal Shelter needs community help by keeping your pets from roaming freely by securing your fences to prevent them from escaping your yard.
Pasadena Pet Owners - WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Due to the tornado that struck our shelter on January 24th, our capacity to house animals has gone from 160+ to about 30. We are asking that you partner with us by keeping your pets from roaming freely by walking them on leashes or securing your fences to prevent them from escaping your yard. And, yes, this includes cats.
This helps us by not having to house your pet until you come get him or her, but it also protects your pet from injury or death due to being hit by a car. Additionally, it protects you from receiving a citation and possibly paying fines as city ordinance requires all pets to be secured in such a way that prevents them from roaming. This can be by a fenced backyard or enclosure, in the home, on a tether (one of our ACOs can come out and educate you on the tethering laws), or on a leash.
If you haven't microchipped your dog or cat, please look into getting it done. As long as you keep the contact information up-to-date, this is the BEST way to ensure that your pet gets back home if he or she gets out. All of our animal control officers are equipped with microchip scanners in their trucks, and any animal can be taken to a veterinarian's office, pet store, or animal shelter to have him or her scanned for a microchip.
Thank you for your doing your part to help ensure the health and safety of the pets of Pasadena!
