On this day in 1835, an incident occurred in Anahuac that would later contribute to the Texas Revolution. These men were being held over customs duties, and their release was a small step towards Texas' fight for independence.

In 1841, the Santa Fé Expedition set out from Central Texas with the goal of establishing trade and securing Texas' territorial claims in Santa Fé. However, the expedition faced adversity when Mexican troops captured the group and held them as prisoners until the following year.

Fast forward to 1852, and the establishment of Fort Clark at Las Moras Springs. This military fort played a significant role in protecting settlements in the region during the turbulent times of the mid-19th century.

Moving on to the 1870s, a feud known as the Sutton-Taylor feud reached its climax on June 20th, 1874, in Clinton, TX. R.P. "Scrap" Taylor and two others were lynched as part of the ongoing conflict, which finally came to an end on December 27th, 1875, with the killing of Jim Taylor by a Cuero posse.

Jumping ahead to more recent history, in 1935, the U.S. Congress passed legislation to create Big Bend National Park. The park was formed through public and private donations of land, preserving the stunning natural beauty and diverse ecosystems of the region for future generations to enjoy.

On a darker note, June 20th, 2001, saw the arrest of Andrea Yates in Texas. Yates infamously drowned her five children in a bathtub, sparking a national conversation about mental health and postpartum depression.

Lastly, in the world of sports, on June 20th, 2007, Sammy Sosa, then playing for the Texas Rangers, hit his 600th career home run. The milestone homer came against his former team, the Chicago Cubs, adding an extra layer of significance to the achievement.
