On July 9, 1716, the Domingo Ramón expedition established the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de los Nacogdoches Mission. This mission played a vital role in the region until its abandonment in 1773. However, in 1779, the abandoned buildings were repurposed to form the center for the settlement of Nacogdoches, which still stands today as an important city in Texas.

Fast forward to July 9, 1857, when a stagecoach carrying mail embarked on a journey from San Antonio to San Diego. This marked the beginning of the first transcontinental mail and passenger service, also known as the "San-San." It was an important development in improving communication and travel between these two distant locations.

Moving on to July 9, 1948, we commemorate the groundbreaking of the Bonham Veterans Administration Hospital. This facility, which opened its doors in November 1951, provided essential care to veterans. It stands as a testament to the gratitude and support Texas has shown to its military personnel.

Lastly, on July 9, 1968, a historic moment took place in Houston, TX. The Astrodome hosted the first-ever All-Star baseball game played indoors. This groundbreaking event showcased the state's innovative spirit and love for sports.
