The state of Texas has a rich historical background, with significant events and milestones that have shaped its heritage. On this day, July 18th, we commemorate some of these notable moments in Texas history.

In 1916, a remarkable Texan named Horace S. Carswell, Jr. was born in Fort Worth, TX. He would go on to receive the Medal of Honor in 1946 for his heroic actions during World War II. Carswell sacrificed his own life to save his crew members, displaying bravery and selflessness beyond the call of duty. As a tribute to his valor, Fort Worth Army Airfield was renamed Carswell Air Force Base.

A year later, in 1917, Camp Bowie was established near present-day downtown Fort Worth. Named after the legendary Alamo hero Jim Bowie, the camp served as an army base during World War I, playing a vital role in the nation's defense.

Fast forward to 1936, when the Fort Worth Frontier Centennial Exposition opened its doors to the public. This grand event celebrated the rich history and culture of Texas, showcasing exhibitions, shows, and performances. The exposition ran for several months and attracted visitors from far and wide.

Moving on to more recent events, in 2012, Governor Rick Perry and First Lady Anita Perry announced the complete restoration of the historic Texas Governor's Mansion. This exquisite building, which had served as the residence for Texas governors for 156 years, underwent extensive renovations to preserve its grandeur and historical significance.

In 2013, Governor Rick Perry signed Texas Senate Bill 5 into law. This bill introduced various measures to add and update abortion regulations in Texas. It sparked a great deal of debate and discussion, highlighting the ongoing social and political divisions regarding reproductive rights in the state.
