On July 12th, 1917, Central Texas celebrated "Mebane Day" in honor of Alexander Mebane. This innovation revolutionized cotton farming in the region and contributed to the state's economic growth.

Moving forward to July 12th, 1943, Baylor College of Medicine opened its doors in Houston. Interestingly, the college found its initial home in a former Sears Roebuck store. This unique setting did not deter the institution from becoming one of the leading medical schools in the country.

Jumping ahead several decades, on July 12th, 1992, a memorial to the legendary Buddy Holly was unveiled in Dallas, TX. The memorial serves as a tribute to the influential rock and roll pioneer who tragically died in a plane crash in 1959. The unveiling of this memorial further solidifies Texas's deep connection to the music industry and its contributions to the genre.

Most recently, on July 12th, 2016, Dallas, TX mourned the loss of five police officers who were murdered during a protest march in downtown Dallas. President Obama and former President George W. Bush attended a solemn memorial service, highlighting the importance of coming together in times of tragedy and showing support for law enforcement.

Intriguingly, on this day in history, Mexican Colonel Pedro Delgado made an observation during the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836. He stated, "No important incident took place until 4:30 p.m. At this fatal moment, the bugler on our right signaled the advance of the enemy upon that wing." This quote sheds light on the significance of timing and communication during battles and how they can shape the outcome.
