Texas' Historical Milestones On This Day May 10th

May 10, 2023 · THIS DAY IN TEXAS HISTORY

May 10th marks an important day in our state's past. On this day in 1893, two influential organizations were founded in Dallas, Texas - the Texas Women's Press Association and the Texas Equal Rights Association.

The Texas Women's Press Association was created to encourage women writers in Texas. Soon after its founding, the organization changed its name to Texas Press Women and expanded its mission to promote journalism and communication in the state.

On the same day, the Texas Equal Rights Association was established as the first statewide organization fighting for women's right to vote. Although it took several more years for women to gain suffrage in Texas, this organization laid the groundwork for future progress in women's rights in the state.

In 1979, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas was designated as a historic landmark by the city of Dallas. This building, which was completed in 1921, has been an integral part of the state's financial history.

Texas is known for its unique culture and identity, as evidenced by the quote from former governor Rick Perry. Texas has a rich history and continues to be a vital part of the United States. As we continue to move forward, it's important to remember and celebrate the contributions of those who came before us.
