Precinct 8 was dispatched to a terrible wreck last night. RIP
PUBLIC RELEASE
January 3, 2023
Late last night, shortly before midnight, Deputies with Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office were dispatched to a major traffic accident in the northbound lanes of the Fred Hartman Bridge between the cities of La Porte and Baytown. It was reported a wrong way driver had collided with another vehicle head on.
Upon arrival, Deputies learned a black GMC half ton pick-up truck, being driven by 90 year Major Abram of the east Houston area, was travelling southbound in the northbound inside lane of the bridge when it collided with a black Toyota Corolla. The Toyota’s driver was identified as 27 year old Lamont Rhodes of the south Houston area. Sadly, both drivers died at the scene as a result of the impact.
There were no passengers in either vehicle and no other vehicles were involved. The northbound lanes of the bridge were shut down at around midnight while Precinct 8 crash investigators processed the scene. The lanes remained closed until shortly after 3:00 AM.
This case remains under investigation at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with both families as they cope with their sudden and tragic loss.
