FRAUDULENT TEMPORARY PERMIT ENFORCEMENT
In January 2022, Harris County Toll Road Authority - HCTRA started a campaign called “Tag You’re It” that focuses on enforcement of altered and fictitious temporary tags. The use of fraudulent temporary permits (paper plates) have caused an increase in unpaid tolls and failure to pay registration fees. Additionally, fictitious temporary permits are often used during the commission of more serious crimes. In an effort to combat this initiative, HCTRA provided training to detect and apprehend vehicles displaying fraudulent temporary permits. Precinct 8 Sergeant Hulsart, assigned to the HCTRA Incident Management Division, has played a part in helping deputies get trained.
This initiative has spilled over to patrol divisions county-wide. During the last few months, it has resulted in thousands of citations and has also yielded hundreds of arrests for non-related charges, towed salvage vehicles and recovered stolen vehicles.
In just one month, Precinct 8 Tollroad Deputy Palacios confiscated the tags shown in this picture.
