PPD's Public Release about Precinct 8's major traffic accident this morning. You're never gonna believe this š
PUBLIC RELEASE
July 26, 2022
At approximately 2:08 AM this morning, Deputy K. LeMelle with the Harris County Precinct 8 Constableās Office was involved in a major traffic accident in the 1300 block of the E Sam Houston Parkway over San Augustine St. in Pasadena. Deputy LeMelle, a 3 year Deputy assigned to our Toll Road Patrol Division on night shift, was parked stationary on the shoulder of the roadway monitoring traffic in the area. Deputy LeMelleās patrol vehicle was struck from the rear by a commercial work vehicle after the driver veered onto the shoulder. Upon impact, Deputy LeMelleās patrol vehicle became engulfed in flames.
A local tow truck operator, Richard Borgstrom, was nearby when he heard the collision and immediately came to the aid of Deputy LeMelle who was trapped inside of her patrol car. Upon arrival, Mr. Borgstrom broke Deputy LeMelleā s driverās side window and was able to pull her out of the patrol vehicle moments before the flames reached the driverās cabin. His actions undoubtedly saved Deputy LeMelleās life.
Deputy LeMelle was transported to Southeast Memorial Hospital with non-life threating injuries and was later released. She is now resting at home. The driver and passenger of the striking vehicle sustained minor injuries.
At this time, the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy LeMelle and all those effected by this event. I would like to extend my thanks to Mr. Borgstrom, who without regard for his own safety, did not hesitate to act in this situation. This is yet another example of a tow truck operator who stepped up to render assistance to one of my Deputies when needed and for that, I am grateful.
Phil Sandlin, Constable
Harris County Precinct 8 Constableās Office
