March 8, 2023 · A-PASADENA NEWS, POLICE, PPD

In celebration of International Women's Day, we wanted to take this time to recognize a few of the amazing women working for our department. With such a diverse group of women, it is easy to find talent all around us. Our department has women working in all areas, from officers to supervisors and administrative civilian staff.

Officer Hope Messenger, pictured in uniform, is one of our patrol officers who works night shift patrol. She has been with the department since January 2019 and aspires to one day work in our Crime Scene Unit. Messenger was born and raised in Pasadena and said that she has always wanted to work for the Pasadena Police Department because it is where her family is; it is her home. When she is not at work, Messenger enjoys fishing, traveling, photography, and spending time with her family, which has recently increased with the welcoming of her first child.

Mercedes Santillanes is our Crime victim Liason. Her primary responsibility is to speak with crime victims and be their advocate on the road to recovery. She provides them with resources and helps guide them through the process. She joined the Pasadena Police Department in January 2020 after leaving a 14-year career as a police officer with Harris County Precinct 7 and Bellaire, respectively. Additionally, she worked for seven years at the Texas Attorney General's office as a child support investigator and a support outreach coordinator for Region 6. Mercedes is married with two kids and two fur babies. Her hobbies included traveling and spending quality time with her family. Even when she's not at work, Mercedes is passionate about helping others and being a voice for those who feel like they don't have a voice.

Officer Jessica Ramirez is the Media Relations officer for our department. She began her career in December 2006 as a Night Shift patrol officer. Having a passion for our community, she soon transferred to our Community Services Division, where she was involved in many community outreach programs, including teaching D.A.R.E., Crime Prevention, and Women's Self-Defense courses. After some time, she began transitioning into more of an information role, becoming the first officer to work in the newly created Media Relations Unit. She now serves our community by providing important information through social media and our department website and by maintaining a close working relationship with local media outlets. When not at work, Jessica enjoys spending time with her family, including her son and her fur baby. She is an avid reader, so when she's not on social media, you can probably find a book in her hand. #IWD2023 #InternationalWomensDay
