It's Latino Conservation Week and Armand Bayou's namesake happens to be 👉
This week is Latino Conservation Week and we’d like to highlight our nature center's namesake, Armand Yramategui. He was a local Houston and Gulf Coast conservation figure and 2nd generation Latino. In the 1960’s, the air and water quality were poor in the Houston area. Wetlands and wildlife habitat were generally not considered a valuable resource. There were very few green spaces for people in the community to enjoy. Armand was the local environmental visionary leader who articulately championed many of these issues. His #AdvocacyAfuera shone a light on the importance and wonder of the natural world. He inspired others to understand and appreciate all nature, and that understanding and appreciation led to protection and action. You too can act, get outdoors, and help make the world a more vibrant and healthy place to live! Looking for more ways to celebrate #LatinoConservationWeek?
