Hero's all around us. Check out what Mr. Moore did. 🙏🏻
On Friday, December 31, 2021 at approximately 6:10 PM, Deputies with Precinct 8 Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office were dispatched to the 1000 block of Independence Pkwy N after receiving reports of a vehicle that drove into the water at the Lynchburg Ferry landing.
Upon arrival, Deputies learned a citizen identified as Robert Moore was in the parking lot of the Monument Inn restaurant with his wife when they saw a vehicle drive through the ferry dock and into the water. Mr. Moore immediately ran to the edge of the landing and jumped into the water without regard for his own safety. Mr. Moore attempted to gain access to the vehicle and began to give instructions to the driver to unlock the doors. Ultimately, the driver was able to exit the vehicle as it began to sink. Mr. Moore grabbed ahold of the driver and pulled him towards the bumper where citizens were able to help them out of the water. Mr. Moore remained with the driver until first responders arrived.
The 63 year old male was transported to nearby HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake Hospital with minor injuries. This incident likely would have resulted in a loss of life and would have left a family in mourning. Mr. Moore’s swift response undoubtedly saved the man’s life.
Houston Police Department's Dive team responded to the scene to recover the vehicle.
