Falcon's (A155442) foster home story.
Falcon (A155442) has been in a foster home for the last few days and check out this great information we received! Much of this is information we would have never been able to get while he was in the shelter. Fostering is so important and we are extremely grateful for our fosters!
"He’s relatively calm with spurts of intense play. Since he isn’t neutered he is obsessed with my border collie (she is 2 years old and thankfully spayed). He uses bones a lot and stays by my side. He has been VERY mouthy so I’m using bones to change this. Other methods haven’t worked but bones and toys seem to be working. With consistency I expect this to get better quickly.
He’d do really well in a home with someone who is lonely. He loves blankets and hugs, eats slowly, enjoys grooming and sleeps nearby. He stays off furniture on his own unless following a dog when he’s excited. He has become possessive of human and dog food. This requires him to be watched closely and kept separate at times. After a little initial adjustment (which is expected) he is doing great with potty training and marking less. He’s stubborn but responsive. Not as great a listener as some dogs but not stubborn like a husky which makes him a great level for beginner trainers or less experienced dog owners. His owner can expect mostly calmness and absolute loyalty.
Unknown about cat interactiveness though I suspect he’d be okay with other animals as he hasn’t even noticed my bunny and isn’t obsessed with the neighbor’s chickens. He can be with other dogs but shouldn’t be left alone with them in the beginning and be kept separate from food until they’ve grown on each other.
I’m beginning him on a grooming routine. He has very thick fur, will need regular grooming and did have a few fleas. He loves being brushed which was very cute. He did great with nail clippers.
I am not confident on his age? He lays down like an older dog or a dog with hip dysplasia. This could be due to genetics, age or treatment/abuse. He did also get stuck under the bed this morning.
He is very scared of loud gunshot like noises and hides behind my head which was unexpected. Some love and he bounces back.
He hasn’t tried to escape the backyard at all and almost never barks or growls.
Anyone who is lonely, wants a loyal dog or dog who will stand next to them on the porch and sleep downstairs at night protecting the household or family should really adopt Falcon. He’d thrive in a loving environment like that."
It should also be noted that he does prefer women, but may come along to men with time and trust. He is also scheduled to be neutered on October 11th.
To meet Falcon, please call 713-920-7942 or send an email to [email protected] as we will need to arrange for the foster to bring him up to the Adoption Center.
