Don’t kill the dog. Bring your animals inside.

December 22, 2022 · A-PASADENA NEWS, Animal Shelter, CITY

With extremely cold weather moving into our area this week, please bring your pets indoors. Share this post to help us keep all of the animals in our community warm, safe and healthy during the freezing conditions expected this week.

As winter approaches, it is important to keep our dogs safe and warm in freezing weather. Here are a few tips to help you do just that:

  1. Bring your dog indoors: The best way to protect your dog from the cold is to bring them inside. If you cannot keep your dog inside, make sure they have access to a warm, dry shelter that is large enough for them to move around in, but small enough to retain body heat.

  2. Keep your dog active: Exercise is important for your dog's physical and mental health, but it is also a great way to keep them warm in cold weather. Take your dog for regular walks and play sessions to help them stay warm and burn off excess energy.

  3. Keep your dog hydrated: Just like humans, dogs can get dehydrated in cold weather. Make sure your dog has access to clean, unfrozen water at all times.

  4. Protect your dog's paws: Snow, ice, and salt can be harsh on your dog's paws. Use paw balm or petroleum jelly to protect your dog's paws from the cold and rough surfaces, and consider getting your dog a pair of booties if they will tolerate them.

  5. Keep your dog groomed: A well-groomed coat will help your dog stay warm and healthy in cold weather. Regularly brush your dog to remove knots and tangles, and consider getting them a warm coat or sweater if they have short hair or are prone to getting cold.

By following these tips, you can help ensure that your dog stays safe and warm during the cold winter months.
