Armand Bayou's Wildlife Wednesday is Box Turtles and info why their population is decline 🐢
Wildlife Wednesday Box Turtles are an adored part of Texas wildlife, but their population is declining due to loss of habitat, the pet trade, and traffic incidents. They are not listed as endangered, but many conservationists consider them to be threatened. As part of ABNC’s conservation efforts, we have a box turtle enclosure with 5 box turtles that can be seen along our Discovery Loop boardwalk. They're well-fed and feel comfortable enough to mate in captivity, producing a few hatchlings every year. Do you know why they are called box turtles?
