Armand Bayou's Wildlife Wednesday is a first for the Nature Center and surprise surprise apple snails. 🐌

#WildlifeWednesday #WildlifeWednesday This limpkin spotted 2 days ago perched by our Bayou is the first limpkin seen at ABNC. Limpkins are non-migratory wetland birds typically seen in Florida and they primarily feed on apple snails. As apple snails have spread, limpkins seem to have followed. While Limpkin are not native to our area, they are a welcome visitor because they don’t pose a downside to local wading birds due to their niche diet. Limpkins are beneficial to our ecosystem as they eat and help to reduce harmful invasive apple snails. Photos by Gary Seloff
