Armand Bayou Throwback Thursday in 1995

March 24, 2022 · A-PASADENA NEWS, CITY, HISTORY, Parks and Recreation

#ThrowbackThursday It’s difficult to imagine that in 1995, the prairie adjacent to the ABNC entry road was overrun by Chinese tallow– the most damaging invasive species to coastal prairie habitats at Armand Bayou Nature Center. As aggressive invasive species begin to dominate an ecosystem, they can cause an ecosystem to collapse under strain. In 2001 a team of conservationists, corporate donors, and dedicated volunteers successfully worked to remove the invasive tallow and restore over 750 acres of critically imperiled coastal prairie to the native prairie ecosystem you see at ABNC today. #conservation #invasivespecies #restoration #nature #TBT
