Armand Bayou information why the buffalo and crew didn’t need to sleep inside during the freeze 2022.

Our local wildlife may not be accustomed to the recent freezing temperatures we’ve had, but they have natural adaptations to survive the cold weather. Many prepare year long, packing on a layer of fat. Several undergo physiological changes in the fall like growing thicker fur. Many will enter a state of torpor, brumation, unlike hibernation, the animals are awake they just aren’t as active. Squirrels will snuggle up to each other to use collective body heat. Birds fluff out their feathers to trap pockets of air around their bodies. Bison eat year-round to pack on the pounds so they do not lose too much weight during winter months, and they lower their heart and breathing rates in order to conserve energy.
