Animal Shelter Pet Update: This is the story of Duke 🐾
🐾 Pet Update 🐾 The story of Duke and his family started our morning off with the biggest smile this morning; we hope it does the same for you!
"Our family took Duke on a Doggie Date in December 2019. We had actually tried to pick out a smaller dog to take on a date, but none were available. However, Duke ended up being such a sweet and calm dog at our house that he won us all over.
We kept him overnight, and my husband was amazed at his good manners. Duke didn't bark, he stayed off the furniture, didn't have any accidents, already knew a few commands and was just an overall good boy. Neither my husband nor I had ever owned a dog.
Our kids begged us to adopt, and we soon realized Duke was one of the "Twelve Strays of Christmas" that year. He had been dropped off at the shelter very sick, was nursed back to health, and now several months later was waiting to be adopted.
Duke still is a really sweet dog. He loves his daily walks in the morning and playing with water in the evenings. He only barks to alert us of strangers at the door and waits patiently by the back door to be let out when nature calls.
He really helped us through the shutdown and makes us laugh with his funny dog ways. We are so happy we tried out the Doggie Date program, which led us to find Duke to brighten our days."
Thank you to Duke's family for sharing this wonderful update and for loving him so much! ❤️
We love hearing from you and getting updates about how the animals you've adopted from us over the years are doing. If you haven't shared an update with us yet, please send one to [email protected]
And if you are interested in participating in the Doggie Date program that Duke's mom mentioned, we will link the application in the comments. It's so much fun, and it does so many incredible things to help our animals!
