And now an important message from PPD: Don’t Buy Illegal License Plates! ⚠️
You know, right? Don’t Buy Illegal License Plates!
4 Things to Remember:
1. No temporary plates last longer than 60 days.
2. Only the licensed dealer where you bought your car can give you a temporary license plate.
3. If you see an advertisement published in social media to buy license plates, that vendor is committing a crime. If you buy one of those license plates and drive your car, you also are committing a crime.
4. If you buy a vehicle in an licensed agency or a lot and the temporary license plate is about to expire, and your vehicle has not yet been registered in your name, they can grant you another permit for another 30 days so that you can continue driving legally. If your vehicle was purchased from a private party, you can purchase a 30-day permit at your local tax office or a local TxDMV office. You can also purchase special permits online at https://www.txdmv.gov/motorists/register-your-vehicle/temporary-permits
Where can you report temporary tag abuse?
If you suspect that a car dealer is abusing the use of temporary plates or if you find yourself in a situation and you don't know what to do, you can report it and file a complaint online at www.TxDMV.gov/complaints .
