A funny thing happened at the Animal Shelter’s adoption event at Texas Roadhouse this past weekend.
At our adoption event this past weekend at Texas Roadhouse, we knew we’d have amazing hosts. We hoped we’d have some great adoptions. (And we did. ❤️) But we could have never imagined a family reunion as sweet as the one that took place during the event.
The sweet dog we called Gertie had been with us since June, making her one of our longest-stay dogs.
None of us could understand why she was with us for so long. She was an absolute sweetheart who loved everyone and always had that huge, ear-to-ear smile on her face when she saw you.
But some things are meant to be.
Because she was still with us last Saturday, she went to the adoption event. And when she did, a gentleman there thought he recognized her and made a call.
He was a pastor, and he called a family in his church who had been missing their beloved dog, Cookie, for a year.
They rushed over…and it was her! ❤️
There were lots of smiles, tears, hugs and tail wags all around. And now Cookie (formerly Gertie) is back home with her family.
